Travel Safety

General Safety

Shades of Green is a military resort property, with Force Protection practices in place. We are a secured facility with a guarded gate for controlled access to the resort. Whether you’re an overnight guest or stopping by Shades of Green to pick up tickets or visit the spa, you will need to show your Military I.D. card. If you’re a sponsored guest, you need to show your Resort I.D. card and photo identification. Everybody will be issued a vehicle hang-tag to display during your visit.

The hotel grounds and surrounding areas are generally safe, but standard precautions should be taken to protect your belongings.

  • Keep valuables in your hotel room safe.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye on your belongings while in public areas.
  • Do not leave valuable items unattended in your vehicle. If you must leave items in your vehicle, place them out of site before arriving at the hotel.

Hurricane Preparedness (June 1 - November 30):

During hurricane season, please monitor local weather forecasts via the National Hurricane Center ([https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/](https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/)).

In the event of a hurricane threat, the hotel will provide critical updates and instructions to the phone number your provided at check-in. Please ensure your phone number is accurate.

Familiarize yourself with the hotel’s emergency evacuation plan, which is posted on the back of the door in all guest rooms.

Consider having a small emergency kit prepared with essential supplies like water, non-perishable snacks, medications, and a flashlight.

Additional Considerations for Central Florida:

Sun Protection: Florida sunshine is intense. Use sunscreen, wear a hat, and stay hydrated.

Hydration: Central Florida’s heat and humidity can lead to rapid dehydration. Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Water fountains and water bottle refill stations are conveniently located next to AAFES and inside of the fitness center.

Wildlife: Be aware of local wildlife, including alligators, snakes, and insects. Do not approach or feed any wild animals.

Pool Safety: Follow all posted pool rules and supervise children closely.

Firearms Policy

Firearms are prohibited at Shades of Green. Weapons may not be carried, kept in guestrooms, secured in guestroom safes, nor stored in vehicles while at Shades of Green. If you arrive with any weapon or firearm, you are required to declare it and turn it into our Security Department upon arrival on property. Please notify a Bellman, and a Security Officer will meet you at the entrance to collect the weapon. The weapon owner will be required to ensure the weapon is not loaded (clear) in front of the Security Officer; this will be done in the Bell Desk area, out of the view of our other guests. The Security Officer will give you a receipt (ticket) for the weapon. The weapon will be taken to the Shades of Green Security Center and locked in a weapons cabinet for safekeeping until checkout. The weapon owner will keep any ammunition. On your day of departure, please contact the Bell Desk with your weapon’s receipt, inform them that you are ready to retrieve your weapon, and a security officer will meet you at the Bell Stand with your weapon.
